We know that anytime we choose to visit a church for the first time it is hard to know what to expect because every church has It's own personality. If you are thinking about visiting with us, we want you to know as much as you can before you come so that you can come with your eyes wide open. If, after reading this overview you still have questions, please contact us.
What to expect when you attend Elim on Sunday Morning.
Our first service which we call the "Breaking of Bread" service, may also be identified by many as Communion, the Eucharist, or the Lord's Supper. In this service, we seek to be led by the Spirit as we meditate on Christ's work in our behalf. What does this look like? After someone who is designated, opens the service, we open the time and encourage other men to come prepared to share a testimony, a few verses that God has spoken to them about or to ask for a song from our song book. At an appropriate time someone will thank God for the bread and the juice symbolizing Christ's body broken and blood shed for the believers' forgiveness and redemption. During this service there is nursery for those 3 and under provided, but older children are encouraged to sit with their parents through the service.
Our second service, which many would understand to be our main service, is a coming together to worship and glorify God through song, to be instructed through His word, and encouraged through fellowship with others of all ages who are seeking to know God better and honour Jesus Christ with their lives. In this service, you should expect a blended style of music with a majority of contemporary flavouring accented by a taste of tradition. In the teaching time, expect to open and study the Bible, God's Word, and to get biblical principles that can be easily applied to everyday life.
We like to have our children (age 2 and up) present for the first part of this service, and then somewhere in the middle, we invite them to head downstairs (with their teachers) for a time of instruction appropriate to their age. On the first Sunday of every month all children grade 1 and up stay in the main service, so that children can experience with their families the full adult service.
After the morning service we serve coffee and treats in the gym, and all are welcomed to come and enjoy some light conversation with friends, whether new or old.
What should I wear? Our gatherings are filled with people dressed as they would dress to a casual meeting with a friend. There are a few ties, and some sandals (in summer). Modesty, for both men and women, is encouraged.
